Biography
Jus D is a visionary singer, songwriter and producer, hailing from the island of Barbados. Renowned for his ability to effortlessly bend and blend musical styles and genres to create his own fresh and distinctive sound, he is a creative force behind some of the biggest names in Caribbean music.
Born Antonio Patrick Johnson in the parish of St. Michael, Jus D developed an enveloping love for music as a young child listening to local radio stations and recording playlists of his favourite songs on cassette tapes in his room. In addition to the quintessential Caribbean soundtrack of Soca and Dancehall, the artist credits Hip-Hop and R&B as major influences in his vocal and writing style, which would lead to his success.
Jus D began his career off stage, writing and producing for international Soca superstar, Rupee. Following Rupee’s advice, Jus D took time to establish himself as a prominent songwriter and producer before making the transition into the spotlight. His signature style has complemented a plethora of Caribbean icons including Shaggy, Machel Montano, Alison Hinds, Shurwayne Winchester, I-Octane and Ricardo Drue. Jus D, the artist, stepped onto the stage when Vibe.com premiered ”9 (Na Na Ni)” in 2017, and has been a main stay in the Soca arena ever since. Crop Over 2018 saw his star rise even higher with hits like “Hole”, “Manager” and “Only Thing She Know” garnering international airplay and attention from major music players including Billboard. In 2019 his follow up hit “So What” took him to Crop Over’s soca monarch finals and landed Jus D a spot on LargeUp.com and Complex.com “Artists To Watch” lists. This momentum led to a tour of the US & Canada; where Jus D represented his country at Barbados on the Water Festival.
Never to be bound by the constraints of genre, Jus D continues to create his own lane and is determined to play by his own rules. In 2020 Jus D is focused on keeping the vibes flowing, releasing his debut studio album “Other Side”. From the virtual fete banger “Boom Bang” to the afrobeats infused “More Money” to the heartbreaking “Goodbye” the album takes listeners for a ride through all the sides of his multi-dimensional artistry.
In addition to his album release, Jus D is bringing to his unique flavour to Soca Gold 2020 with a cheeky “Touch”. What was meant to be his first release for Crop Over 2020, skyrocketed into the exclusive first single of VP’s cornerstone album. Jus D describes his connection with music as an ongoing conversation between himself and and the world around him. And as long as they keep talking, nothing can stop the vibes!
